I don't know about you, but I love to kick off a new week with some inspiring words. I especially love this quote. Doesn't life feel so stifling when filled with too much of one thing? When I'm feeling overly consumed by one aspect of my life, I always try to take a break for reading, going to the movies, or even coffee with a friend. Adding variety to my life really helps me to breathe and to feel like a happier person. Hope you had a great weekend! xoxo, Bri

Words for the Weekend { Be A First Rate Version of Yourself }
Thanks so much to those of you who filled out my blog survey! Your responses were really so helpful to me as I consider the future of this blog. Something I've been thinking about lately is authenticity and what it means, for me personally, to be true to myself. From bloggers to entrepreneurs, there are so many successful women out there who I am inspired to emulate. But I find that even though it's important to have role models, the more I try to follow someone else's path, the more lost I feel. I have my own deep-rooted ideas and dreams and I'm realizing that these natural instincts are the urges I need to pay the most attention to. The people who I look up to most didn't get where they are now by trying to be just like somebody else. They spent years, sometimes even decades of their lives, working hard to become the best possible version of themselves.

Words for the Weekend: Begin It Now
Image scanned from an old Kate Spade ad / Quote from The War of Art, attributed to Goethe by some sources.
I just finished reading a book called The War of Art, by Steven Pressfield. At first I was a little hesitant to read it, just because I don't think of myself as a self-help book kind of person. But since a friend recommended it with such enthusiasm, I thought I'd give it a try! The theme of the book is, "Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles." It asks the question, what keeps so many of us from doing what we really long to do in life?

Words for the Weekend { It's My Birthday!! }
It's my birthday today! Strangely, this is the first birthday yet that's made me feel old. C'est la vie, I guess! We've kind of been celebrating all week. Highlights so far: a walk on the beach with my husband, some generous presents, a near constant stream of sweet messages from friends and a birthday cake made by my dad. Feeling quite blessed!
Happy weekend, dear blog readers!

Words for the Weekend { Trust Your Struggle }
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the importance of living in the present and even more importantly, approaching each new day with an attitude of thankfulness and trust. Trials and tribulations exist to make us stronger. Obstacles block our path and doors close in order to lead us to the future that awaits us. I choose to believe that God has a blessed plan for each of us, a big plan, that sometimes feels impossible to understand. I love those profound few moments in life when everything makes sense, every little detail appears perfectly woven together, and the entire season of struggle makes sense. It's been a long time for me, but I have a good feeling that I'm approaching that moment of clarity someday soon...
Speaking of living in the present, I'm ridiculously excited about watching the Academy Awards tomorrow!! Brandon and I have been trying to watch as many of the Best Picture nominees as possible and I'm still brainstorming for snack ideas. What was your favorite film this year? Any other Oscar predictions? Or snack ideas?
Happy weekend!!

Words for the Weekend { Let Go }
We are officially settled back into California life, and I spent the past week job hunting. I've found myself thinking a lot about the fresh possibilities and unthought of opportunities that unemployment presents, and getting really excited and curious about the future. Does anyone have an uplifting story to share about life not turning out as planned? Or about discovering a career better fit for you than what you'd dreamed of? I'd love to hear!
Hope you have a lovely weekend!
And seriously, anyone want to hire me? ;)

Words for the Weekend { Decide What to Be }
I'm approaching a new stage of life that will involve some serious decisions, including what I want to be when I grow up. All of a sudden, I have not the slightest clue. Either that or I want to be a thousand different things. And I'm not very good at decisions. Have you ever been in that place?
As for this weekend, I'll be busy doing some serious packing. Seeing your things in boxes definitely makes a move feel more real. I hope you're all having a lovely weekend! :)

Words for the Weekend { Keep It Classy }
My weekend is off to a great start! Saw Breaking Dawn yesterday, which was surprisingly really good, and we started our Christmas shopping. My only plans for the next couple days are lots of laundry, some serious organizing in preparation for our big move next month, and escaping into a good book. I've been reading through some classics lately, and next on my list is The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins.
Until next week,

Minimalism {Guest Post on What the Frock?}
A philosophy that I'm attempting to embrace as I grow older and wiser is minimalism, especially when it comes to my closet and my home. Choosing to value quality over quantity leads to simplicity, which translates to a life that is more refreshing, meaningful, beautiful, and free. If you want to hear more, check out my guest post today on the fashion blog, What the Frock? Who knew a woman only needed five items to be chic?
