March Mood

"It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold; when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade." -Charles Dickens

March has always been one of my favorites, and not just because it's my birthday month. The above quote captures the essence of March for me; it's a study in contrasts, winter and spring at once. In Central California, where I live, it's rained almost every day the past few weeks and the temperatures have stayed unusually low. But the peach and almond trees have also blossomed, and the hills have come alive in their most verdant shades of green, their annual wildflower show already beginning. During the long winter weeks after Christmas, my homebody side takes over and I naturally go into hibernation mode, but come March it feels like time to emerge. Around this time of year, I begin to feel really, genuinely hopeful. I usually like to plant my spring/summer garden and start planning our summer adventures.

Unfortunately, this March began with a pretty nasty head cold, which is why this post is late again. Other than checking off my most pressing work tasks, this last week consisted of sleeping, listening to audio books in bed, and lots of hot lemon water. I'm determined to kick this thing before my birthday! Typically I'm not one of those birthday-obsessed people, but this year, it's a big one... I'm turning 30 this month. I've honestly always looked forward to my 30s, so there's no bad vibes, but entering into this new decade still feels significant, which I plan to write more on later. For now, here are some things I'm looking forward to this month:

March To-Do's and Things to Look Forward To:

Longer days. I always seem to get more accomplished this time of year.
A much overdue hair appointment. Thinking new decade, new hair?
Spending my birthday weekend in San Francisco!
More birthday celebrations with family at home.
Refreshing my wardrobe and making some extra money on Poshmark.
Using my birthday as an excuse to eat out at all my favorite restaurants.
Cooking extra healthy meals at home in between all the eating out.
Some serious spring cleaning. This sunny weather makes me want to clean our windows!
Also lots of yard work.
More consistent blog posts. What topics do you want to see?
Spring flowers starting to bloom.

Happy March, friends! Hope you experience hope and a new sense of purpose this month. xx
