New Life: New Blog

This post exists solely to christen my brand new blog.

According to my trusty source, Wikipedia, "bricolage is a term used in several disciplines, among them the visual arts and literature, to refer to the construction or creation of a work from a diverse range of things that happen to be available, or a work created by such a process. The term is borrowed from the French word bricolage, from the verb bricoler, the core meaning in French being, 'fiddle, tinker' and, by extension, 'to make creative and resourceful use of whatever materials are at hand (regardless of their original purpose)'. In contemporary French the word is equivalent of the English 'do it yourself', and is seen on large shed retail outlets throughout France. A person who engaged in bricolage is a bricoleur."

I first studied this term in an art theory course I was required to take in college.  As cheesy as it sounds, I remember reading the definition and feeling a certain spark of self-realization, like I'd finally found my personal artist statement. (Plus, this newly discovered word had my name in it! And who isn't drawn to words with their name in it?)  Currently, I'm not at a point in my life where I fully understand myself or what I'm meant to do in life, as a grown up.  But something that I know is true about myself, that exists at the core of all of my decisions, dreams, and desires, is that I am drawn to the old; the "vintage" aesthetic, even history itself.  I'm also a genuine fiddler, a tinkerer at heart.  I like to make old things new.  I guess you could say that my name is not only Bri, but that I also consider myself a "bricoleur."

In my blogging past, I've written about weddings.  On this new blog, I foresee myself being a little more vague.  I plan to write about fashion, about travel, and about my life, (married and in Maryland), which is so new and bizarre to me that I can't imagine not writing about it.  This blog is intended for my family and friends back home, to help them keep up with me and Brandon; for my faithful readers, or at least those who still care to follow me post-wedding; and most importantly, for me!

Hello, new blog.  Hopefully we're in for something interesting together!

Love, Bri
